Aerating breaks up compacted soil and allows water and fertilizer to reach the root level of your lawn. Thatch is the brown dead stems and debris that accumulate with time just above the ground level in a lawn. Excessive thatch (1/2 inch or more) will choke out lawn growth and fertilizing/watering will become a lot less effective. De-Thatching removes brown debris and allows the lawn to become thick and green again. Aerating and de-thatching will definitely improve the look and health of your lawn without replacing it.
